Student Policies - Attendance Policy
Daily school attendance is of the utmost importance to students and their parents/guardians. The faculty and staff of Grant High School have great concern for the attendance patterns of our students. Our most successful students are punctual and attend school regularly. Educational funding is reliant upon the in-seat Average Daily Attendance of student. We ask the cooperation of students and their families in developing and maintaining good attendance habits.

We are aware that on occasion a student must be absent from school. When a prolonged absence is necessary, we request that the parent/guardian call the school at (818) 781-1400 ext.207 or 208 and report the date(s) and reason for the absence. The attendance office is open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Upon the students return to school, a note bearing a parent or legal guardians signature, date(s) and reason for absence must be brought to the Attendance Office for the purpose of re-admission to school.

These notes are kept on file in the Attendance Office and may be reviewed by the parent or guardian during the school year.

Parents/guardians are notified regarding student absences in one or more of the following ways:
  1. A computer telephone dialer will contact the parent on the first day of absence.

  2. A computer-generated letter stating the number and days of absence is mailed for every student absent five consecutive days.
We are pleased to review the attendance pattern of your son or daughter with you. If you have any questions, please call the school and ask to speak with the Attendance Office personnel, which include Mrs. Kristine Keshishian, our Attendance Counselor who is available to support all students to improve their attendance. A time will be arranged for the review of these records.

We would also like to remind you that a student may not leave the campus during school hours without clearance from the Attendance Office. If your son or daughter must leave before the regular dismissal time, please have the student bring a note to the Attendance Office before 8:00 a.m. on the day of the requested early release. The note should indicate the time and reason for the early release, the signature of a parent or guardian and a telephone number where the parent may be reached between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.

Students under the age of 18 who are loitering in public places between 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on school days may be subject to fines and/or community service.

School district policy requires that the school be notified of any change of address within thirty (30) days of moving. If you have had a recent change of address and/or telephone number please notify the Attendance Office.
