We congratulate Ms. McMurrin for being named as the first LAUSD Principal of the Year. Superintendent Carvahlo said, "This honor is more than a title--it's a symbol of the dedication, professionalism, and heart shown by school leaders across our district every day. They lead with strength, inspire confidence, and protect those they serve."
Principal McMurrin expressed that she was profoundly honored to represent principal colleagues across the district and celebrate the work of her colleagues at Grant when she was named LAUSD Principal of the Year. She emphasized that the award isn't an individual award, but it's representative of the team at Grant High School and also belongs to the administrators, magnet coordinators, teachers, counselors, office staff, plant manager, and all the team at Grant High School who work so hard every day to ensure Grant's campus is ready for learning. Principal McMurrin also expressed that awards like this honor the daily work for all those who believe in the power of public education to transform lives.
Principal McMurrin described her overwhelming gratitude and acknowledged feeling humbled by the recognition. After receiving the award, she shared, "In LAUSD and at Grant, we work hard to fulfill the promise of education for every student, in every classroom, in every community. We know that the work is never finished, but together we ensure that every child, no matter their background or circumstance, has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed."
