Principal's Message

Lancer Community:

I am honored to be the principal at U.S. Grant High School.  I have been at Grant for the past 12 years, first as an Assistant Principal and am honored to serve now as Principal, continuing the growth and progress Grant has made.

This year we look forward to continuing our academic and athletic successes.  We are proud about the strength of our instructional program and that we are meeting the needs of our students. We celebrate a diverse and inclusive environment through our academic and extracurricular activities. We have a busy and thriving campus; I encourage you to check in regularly on our website calendar to keep apprised of the many different events happening all across campus.

We have two magnets on campus and a School for Advanced Studies.  Our College Prep and Digital Arts Magnet (led by Coordinator Andrea Caruso) was once again honored as a Magnet School of Excellence in Spring 2026.  This impressive distinction affirms what we already know--our magnet teachers collaborate and work productively to create rigorous and relevant lessons that prepare are students for college.  Our Humanitas Magnet expands their enrollment each year, and we appreciate the interdisciplinary work done by their teachers to create learning experiences for students.

At Grant, we are proud to offer Advanced Placement classes and concurrent enrollment at Los Angeles Valley College (LAVC) opportunities for students at all grade levels.  Our students enroll in LAVC courses such as Communications, Sociology, Chicano Studies, English 101, and more while also enrolled at Grant.  Students at Grant also have the opportunity to take a wide range of Advanced Placement classes, including AP Seminar and AP Research, allowing them to earn eligibility for the AP Capstone Diploma.

We want all Lancers to remember our Schoolwide Learner Outcomes with a simple phrase, "Lancers are GREAT!"
  • Global Citizens
  • Responsible Leaders
  • Effective Communicators
  • Academically Engaged
  • Technologically Adept

Our Grant modernization project is mostly complete.  Our updated facilities and our technology resources support student learning.  With the campus modernization, our Lancer campus is truly be ready for our 21st century learners.  Our new science classrooms, ceramics studio, art studios, and industry-level Career Technical Education classrooms are unlike the facilities at most other schools.  We offer community tours once a month, so come see what our campus offers!

At Grant, we ensure that all of our students receive a quality education and are fully prepared to leave us college and career ready with an understanding of how valuable education is and how education opens doors of opportunity. My priority has always been “students first” and ensuring all students have opportunities to learn and achieve.

Sincerely,

Rebecca McMurrin
Principal, U.S. Grant High School
